FLASHPOINT BOSTON PORTFOLIO WALK AND PORTFOLIO REVIEWS
October 21, 2017
808 Commonwealth Avenue, 4th Floor, Boston University
FlashPoint Boston Portfolio Walk and Portfolio Reviews are great opportunities for emerging and established photographers to meet with curators, teachers, gallerists, collectors, and other image professionals in the busy New England photography world and beyond. The reviews will take place at Boston University at 808 Commonwealth Avenue. The reviews are on the 4th floor, rooms 409 and 411.
Portfolio Reviews: The Reviews will serve individuals who are just embarking on their careers and those who have several years of experience and are hoping to reach new audiences. We have invited more than 30 national and regional jurors including educators, curators, collectors, artists, and writers, and they will approach each 30-minute review as a team of 3 people. Each review team will represent a variety of perspectives and each photographer will have four review sessions. This team approach was implemented in the New England Portfolio Reviews in 2016, and it was very well received, and FlashPoint Festival is very pleased to adopt this innovative approach to portfolio reviews.
Reviewers include: Arlette Kayafas, Paula Tognarelli, Jessica Roscio, Toni Pepe, Jim Fitts, Brian Wilson, Karen Haas, Edie Bresler, Elin Spring, Elizabeth Avedon, Sean Perry, Beuford Smith, Mary Engel, David Carol, J. Sybylla Smith, Andre Ruesch, Erin Becker, Christine Collins, Bruce Myren, Glen Scheffer, Joshua Farr, Grayson Dantzic, Suzanne Revy, Meg Birnbaum, Erin Carey, Yorgos Efthymiadis, Bill Franson, Dana Salvo, Richard Wein, Rania Matar, Emily Belz, Cheryle St. Onge, Steven Duede, Neal Rantoul, Bill Gaskins, David DeMelim, Frances Jakubek, Kat Kiernan, Susan Nalband, Barbara Hitchcock, Lou Jones, Judith Thompson, Tynan Byrne, Sam Barzilay, and Gregory Marinovich. Portfolio Reviews Application Process, Registration, and Rates
Please submit your application by October 1, 2017 midnight.
You will be asked for a brief biography and artistic CV (a single pdf that includes both bio and CV – not one pdf of bio and one pdf of CV); a statement on the work supplied, and flattened rgb jpgs (1200 pixels on the longest side) of your photographs (minimum of 10/maximum of 14 photographs).
Our gateway will assemble your input into one area on our web host site and give the jurors the ability to go there to view and also download a pdf as needed. You will be able to insert your text for statements into the gateway application. (No other means of submission will be accepted. Any missing criteria will disqualify the submission. Emails will not be accepted as a method of submissions.) Pay special attention to the selection and sequence of photographs. It is recommended that the artist statement comes to the point early in the narrative and is not unnecessarily long (see example supplied in the application).
Note, after finishing up and clicking the submit button you will be taken to our checkout system where you can use a major credit card or your paypal account to pay the $25 application fee, which includes participation in the Portfolio Walk on October 21 from 5-7 pm.
Once your application materials are received, the FlashPoint Boston panel will review your submission for inclusion in the Portfolio Reviews, and you will be notified of your participation as soon as possible but no later than October 7, 2017.
If selected for the Portfolio Reviews, you will be asked submit $200.00 which includes four review sessions with the three-person review panels.
Review schedules will be provided on the day of the reviews. Given the nature of the panel reviews, artists are not able to choose their reviewers in advance. Thank you for your understanding.
